
Mark Scott, formerly from Charlottesville, returned to his home state from North Carolina and found lots of willing hickory shad biting in the Rappahannock. Mark was able to fish from the shore at the city park without having to wade and had nice catches, like the one above.
Crappie and bass have mostly finished their spawn but are still cruising in shallow water. Stripers are on their way up the Dan and Staunton rivers from Kerr Reservoir. The trout streams are low, but full of fish. Bluegills are moving close to shore and fanning out spawning beds. It’s popper time on the lakes and ponds.
Drum and Blues
The drum and bluefish continue to bite along the Carolina coast. On Tuesday,
there were lots of puppy drum caught from the surf and in the sound.
There were some big red Some nice sized Black Drum were caught on Wednesday.
Catches from the surf and piers included mostly bluefish, with a
few sea mullet and blow toads in the mix. The inshore anglers have
been catching lots of puppy drum and stripers further inland. Anglers
fishing on the southern beaches have been landing drum, blues, sea mullet,
and croakers.
Boats that went offshore had a slow start but returned to the marinas
with lots of tuna.
In Virginia, red drum have moved in along with big black drum, The flounder bite improves daily. Togs are biting at the Bridge Tunnel and a few croakers are starting to hit Fishbites in the tidal rivers. The trout and puppy drum action remains strong.
