It seems to be non-stop – fishing at Nags Head and on the Outer Banks. But now, not only are puppy drum and speckled trout blasting baits, the stripers are getting in on the act as well. Capt., Reese Stecher of Beach Bum Fishing says that on Monday, his party caught a 10-fish striper limit with beautiful fish up to 25-inches. They continue to hammer the specks and pups as well.
The piers were producing croakers and sea mullet while the anglers on the bridge to Manteo reeled in trout to 3-pounds, plus some keeper stripers and bottom fish.
To get in one the action, close up shop, head for Nags Head and enjoy some terrific fishing. To book a guide, contact Capt. Stecher at (252) 449-0232 or www.beachbumfishing.com
Virginia Saltwater
It’s a spot attack in progress. Spot fishing in Virginia’s saltwater, that is. Big spot pushing a pound are nailing every bloodworm in sight. There are plenty of rockfish in the bay and tribs, though the big gals won’t arrive till late November.
Puppy drum and specks are hitting in inlets on both sides of the bay. Cobia have left the building, but flounder are picking up that slack. Bluefish are scattered in the bay and along the coast. The billfish bite is still on, but they will be heading south in the next few weeks.
Hatteras
After some rough weather on the weekend, it was a warm day on Monday at Hatteras and fish were caught in the surf. Small bluefish and puppy drum were biting on the Point that morning. Ramp 43 had a morning bite of sea mullet, croakers, and blow toads. Avon had sea mullet, spot and croakers.
Offshore, boats fished last Sunday and returned with a mixed bag of Wahoo, nice size dolphin and both yellowfin and blackfin tuna. There were also some triggerfish reported.
Inshore anglers were catching speckled trout and red drum.
