It was an exciting weekend on the OBX. Cobia, Bluefish, Drum, Trout, you name it, and they were biting!
The boats fishing nearshore this weekend caught Cobia, Red Drum, Black Drum and Spanish!
There has been plenty of action inshore lately! Lots of Drum, Speckled Trout, and Bluefish. There have been a few Sheepshead caught around the bridges. Stripers have been biting further inland. The bluefish bite has also been outstanding for inland charters.
The piers and surf fishing have had good reports of Bluefish, Sea Mullet, and Puppy Drum.
The offshore boats have been catching nice Yellowfins, Wahoo, and Dolphin. The marlin should arrive soon.
Virginia Saltwater
The first Red and Black Drum of the season arrived in Virginia last month and more are on the way. Huge schools of Red Drum, along with a few Cobia have been spotted by airplane as they migrate along North Carolina’s Outer Banks heading for the Chesapeake Bay.
Puppy Drum are still actively feeding inside Lynnhaven, Rudee Inlet, and the Elizabeth River. Flounder catches are improving with warming waters, particularly around Wachapreague and Chincoteague on the Eastern Shore. They’re also appearing in Rudee, Lynnhaven, and Little Creek inlets, as well as along the CBBT.
Sheepshead are being caught in the Chesapeake Bay. Tautog fishing remains strong, with best catches coming from along the CBBT islands and other Bay structures.
The Virginia Beach piers report catches of Puppy Drum, Black Drum, Trout and small Bluefish.
Deep-drop anglers are landing Blueline Tilefish, Golden Tilefish, Snowy Grouper, Blackbelly Rosefish, and spiny dogfish. Offshore trollers are hooking up with tuna, Wahoo, and Mahi.
