Bluefish continue to provide great action in our saltwater. At Nags Head on Wednesday, packs of bluefish were busting baits and lures and keeping the anglers busy.
Blues are biting well in Virginia waters as well, especially in the lower Bay and off the Virginia Beach Coast.
The Virginia Report
- Cobia & Red Drum: Cobia action is very good from the Bay entrance to the mouth of the Potomac, with sight-casting being the top method. Bull red drum are actively patrolling shoals and CBBT bridge islands.
- Flounder: Flounder are hitting well on Gulp! baits, particularly around the CBBT and nearby ocean structures.
- Bottom Fishing: Spadefish and sheepshead are holding tight to bridge pilings and structure, while bluefish and Spanish mackerel are taking spoons and jigs along the beaches.
Offshore & Deep-Water Report:
- Tuna & Mahi: Yellowfin tuna and Mahi are being found along weed lines and in the “blackfin hole” on half-day and full-day charters
- Bottom & Sharks: Bottom droppers are landing blueline tilefish and black sea bass. Anglers are also finding sand tiger sharks up to 7 feet.
- Surf & Piers: Anglers fishing from the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier are targeting spotted seatrout, black sea bass, and sharks. At Sandbridge Beach, cut bait is working well for red drum and bluefish.
