Overall, duck numbers in the survey area are statistically similar to last year and remain steady. Total populations were … [Read more...]
Sailfish On the Piers
No need to charter a boat and motor 30 miles to the Gulf Stream to catch a sailfish. In Nags Head, the water is so warm this week in the surf that several sailfish, though small, were caught off the piers. Southeast breezes raised the water tempearture to the upper 70’s, according to TW’s Tackle in Nags Head. Here is their report: Surf: Spot, Sea Mullet, Pompano and Flounder and Bluefish … [Read more...]
Summertime Trout
South River Flyshop in Waynesboro says that despite the heat, the trout bite has been steady on the South River thanks to the feeding springs and recent rains. Terrestrials are the middle of the day go-to flies with the Fat Albert, Eric's Clodhopper, Arlienator Ant and Tony's Love Bug beetle … [Read more...]

Slow Roasted Pork
By Terry Tigner (Ed. Note: Some recipees are worth repeating. This is one of them. Terry shared this recipee in one of our first editions of CvilleBuzz. It has become a staple in our kitchen, so here goes again.) I am not a great cook. In fact, I would rate myself an only slightly better than average cook, giving myself a slight edge only because I love to cook. I am a … [Read more...]
More Frog News
What would an edition of CvilleBuzz be without an update on Uh-Huh the Frog? As I mentioned a few weeks back, Uh-Huh (named after Froggy Went A’ Courting) materialized in our small lily pond. Don’t know where he came from or how he scaled the walls on the side of the pond, but he’s there nonetheless. At first, he was about the size of the tip of your thumb. The little fellow is now much larger, … [Read more...]
Making Hay
Jobs were tough to find when Boomers were growing up. There were few temporary or summer jobs in the retail trade because most workers were full time and many had been on the job for years. There were no fast food jobs because there was no such thing as fast food. There was some part-time clerical work available in the summers, and of course, lawn mowing and baby sitting opportunities, but real … [Read more...]
Lowery’s Seafood Restaurant
Years ago I was headed for the Northern Neck where I would meet a charter boat captain at Lewisetta and try my hand at catching Spanish mackerel. After asking advice on directions, a friend advised me that when I passed through Tappahannock - if I had a chance - to eat at a place called Lowery’s Seafood Restaurant. It so happened that I was in the small town around dinnertime, and pulled into a … [Read more...]
