We still have a few more weeks before things start to happen on the fishing scene. In the meantime, there are Sport Shows to whet out outdoor appetites. One of the best is the Western Virginia Sport Show in Fishersville on Feb. 23-25.
It’s hard to believe, but this will be the 36th Annual Show. Wow, I remember going to the first one at the Augusta Expo.
They always have lots of fun and interesting things for the entire family, but it’s an especially good place to find a guide for that exotic hunting or fishing trip you have on your bucket list. I hooked up with an elk hunting guide and trip to Montana at that show.
This year they will have a live alligator show and I understand the gators are hungry. They are quite fond of human fingers and toes, or so I hear. So maybe don’t get too close.
There will also be seminars on hunting tactics, dog training, turkey calling, striper fishing, rattling for big bucks, and making moonshine. Just kidding about the moonshine, but that would be interesting. Bring the kids, too, as there is a trout catching pond and you may be able to take home dinner.
Show hours are 11-8:30 on Friday; 10 to 8:30 on Saturday and noon to 5:30 on Sunday.
Go to www.westernvirrginiasportshow for more details and exact seminar times.
Spring is coming and the fish will be biting soon, but until, there are outdoor shows.
