
Some nice Spanish mackerel are being caught from the coast off Virgina Beach and well up into Bay waters. Trolling techniques with Clarke Spoons are most effective. Water temps are now around 70 in the Bay where bluefish, flounder, stripers, spot and croakers are all biting. The cobia season is in full swing, and some big boys have been landed. Some impressive bull drum have been caught recently, and the sheepshead bite remains strong around most any bridge pilings. Surf anglers at Sandbridge are catching pompano, sea mullet and blues Offshore, it’s spadefish and black sea bass with lots of Mahi in the Gulf Stream.
OBX anglers are pulling in blues and Spanish from the piers and surf. Specks and pups are biting in the sound and offshore ventures are producing tuna, Mahi and tilefish.
Freshwater
Virginia received a welcome spurt of rainfall early this week which helped cool down the waters, but the rivers are still low. Bass and crappie are in their summer patterns, and some huge blue catfish have been caught at Buggs Island.
