Rather than watching Seattle trash the Patriots in a boring Super Bowl and bypassing a vulgar halftime performance, Iowa fishermen, Micaiah Thompson, and Dan Ginn took a group of church kids fishing instead. It paid off.
The group was ice fishing in Lake of Three Fires in an Iowa State Park of the same name. The kids were after panfish, but the adults were hoping for a walleye or two. They caught both, but just before dark as they were getting ready to leave, Thompson saw a nice sized fish on his sonar and dropped a green jig down to investigate. The fish hit hard and soon after, Thompson pulled a 3.95-pound crappie through the ice – an Iowa State Record.
This is not to say that anyone should ever skip Church to go fishing, but for Micaiah Thompson and party, fishing with a bunch of kids after Church was certainly a blessed event.
