The fishing reports are going to be both sparse and redundant in the next month or two. There will be some catch and release striper fishing in the bay and reports of speckled trout caught at the Hot Ditch in the Elizabeth River. Tautogs will bite for those lucky enough to find bait and crazy enough to go fishing in a deep freezer.
One the OBX, boats heading offshore will find huge bluefin tuna. A few rockfish will be biting in the sounds and pier and surf fisherman will report skates and dogfish.
Freshwater angling will include good catches of big largemouth bass every week at Lake Anna, along with stripers at The Splits. Crappie will go deeper than a submarine and some giant blue cats will be caught on the lower James.
To supplement, the “same-old, same-old” reports, I am going to do a series on the Fish of My Life.
Happy New Year and see ya’ next week.
