Angler’s Landing, the marina and bait shop at Lake Orange, is open again for business – just in time for the crappie and yellow perch bite, Angler’s Landing rents jon boats and sells bait and supplies for one of the most productive lakes in Virginia. Owned and managed by the DWR, Orange gives up trophy bass in addition to channel cats, redear sunfish, walleye, saugeye, bass, crappie, perch, and bream.
Lake Orange is easily the best crappie fishery in Central Virginia. My understanding is that some of the crappie stocked here were from Buggs Island. The crappie are biting now at Orange as they begin their move to shallow water in advance of the spawn.
The water temperature is now in the mid-50’s and the lake is clear. Some early season catfish have been going for chicken livers.
