The speckled trout bite is on fire in the lower Chesapeake and tributaries. Cool water has the fish on the move to take advantage of stranded baitfish and sluggish shrimp. Hot spots include Lynnhaven Inlet, Rudee Inlet, the Fort Monroe stretch of the James River, and the Elizabeth Rive. Puppy drum are biting alongside the trout in the same areas.
Rockfish are showing up in rivers and creeks, with the most consistent action at night around lighted docks, piers, and bridges.
Inside the bay, the tautog bite is heating up, a few sheepshead are still around, and red drum remain in play.
Deep-water reefs are holding sea bass and triggerfish. And there’s lots of tilefish to be had at the Canyon.

The weather turned nice and so did the fishing. Anglers are finding trout, drum, mullet, croaker, and blues in the surf. The water temp is at 64. Beaches are wide open, as there are not many folks out there, as it has been a very slow October. There have been some larger drum hauled up on the south beaches. Specks, rocks and pups area active in the sounds.
Lots of blackfin tuna are coming across the rails for the blue water fleet.
