I used to do fishing classes for beginners and one thing I always emphasized was to buy good equipment and stay away from those cheap Zebco Combos – like the kids’ Mickey Mouse Rods.
I might have been wrong.
On July 21, West Virginia’s Tyler Rutherford took his family fishing at a local farm pond. He put a worm on the hook of his three-year old daughter’s pink Zebco equipped with 6-pound test and made a cast. The bobber went down, and Tyler set the hook and was quickly into the fight of his life. After an epic battle, he brought a huge catfish to net. The giant channel catfish was 43 ½-inches long wand weighed 46.7 pounds – easily a new West Virginia state record. The family weighed the fish on official scales and released it back into the family pond.
I will never again ever doubt the effectiveness of a pink rod.
