
Cobia are stealing the headlines on the saltwater front. The big fellows have moved well up into Bay waters. The best results for bigger fish have come from chum lines. Winds have made it difficult for sight casting. Live eels are by far the best baits.
Red drum fishing just gets better and better. The lower bay is producing nice catches and nighttime has been the right time for many boats. Smaller black drum, flounder and sheepshead are being caught near structures. A resurgence in Spanish mackerel has been noted along the oceanfront and in the lower bay.
Spadefish can be found near buoys, the pilings of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel and the Chesapeake Light Tower.
The inlets and lower Bay rivers continue to give up specks and puppy drum. Spot catches are on the increase. Oceanfront and lower bay pier anglers have been catching some nice Spanish mackerel. Big bluefish arere being caught throughout the bay, some fish in the 30-inch category.
Surf fishermen have been beaching nice red drum, sharks, sea mullet and pompano. The sounds on the OBX have been producing specks, pups and houndfish.
Offshore boats continue to pound the Mahi with nice catches of blackfin tuna in the mix.
