When you go to the beach and eat fried seafood and French fries practically every night, you’ll gain weight. Trust me. I gained 5 ½ pounds in three days. Back to chicken and broiled fish, I suppose.
But, you know, lean beef, like round steak or flank steak, isn’t that fattening. It’s the 12-ounce marbled rib-eyes that will hurt you. On my first trip to the grocery store since my near-death experience with the bathroom scales, I decided to get some beef in addition to chicken. If you eat chicken every meal, it gets boring and tempts you to try other fattening, more satisfying dishes. I decided on cubed steak – tasty, but usually chewy and tough. Maybe I’ll put it in a marinade?
On the aisle with the marinades and sauces I saw a packet of McCormick Grill Mates Marinade in a Bourbon Brown Sugar blend. How can you go wrong with bourbon and brown sugar?
I bought a pack, put four pieces of cubed steak in a Zip-Loc with the marinade that morning and tossed the steaks on a hot grill at dinner time. It was very good.
McCormick offers several different types of marinades for chicken, beef, fish and pork, and I think I’ll try some of the others. Marinade is not all that hard to make yourself, but the Grill Mates packets are inexpensive, easy to use and they offer different flavors than the usual soy sauce, vinaigrette and Teriyaki-type concoctions. Try a pack. Good stuff. And I lost weight the next morning!!!
