We had a big gang at our house over Thanksgiving and decided to have a Hot Dog Extravaganza the day after the big meal. The challenge was to see who could eat the most dogs. It ended up in a tie as multiple parties wolfed down three each.
To set the stage, I had three varieties – Gourmet Hot Dogs from Omaha Steak, Nathan’s All Beef dogs and some plain old wieners made of who knows what. They were the best. But as every “Dog Connoisseur” knows, you have to have good Hot Dog Chili to go with such a feast.
I decided to make my own and it rocked!
I started with a half-pound of ground chuck, browned it and poured off the grease. I then added a half of a minced onion and let it simmer for about a half hour. Next, I poured 10-ounces of Heinz Chili sauce in the mix and added 2 T of chili seasoning. I let it cook for at least a half hour, until most of the moisture was absorbed. We piled it high on our dogs and that sealed the deal.
