Ground turkey has no calories. It’s like eating air. You could eat five packages and not gain an ounce.
Ground beef, on the other hand, is like eating Fried Lard. You will gain weight if you eat any of the fat-infused beef and your bathroom scales will make snide remarks as you approach.
In an attempt to eat a couple bowls of chili and not have to loosen my belt buckle, I decided to make a batch of Turkey Chili. Not only did I not gain weight, the chile was delicious.
There are a million ways to make chili. It’s hard to go wrong, but here’s how I put mine together.
Begin by browning a 20-oz. package of ground turkey in a couple tablespoons of olive. Next, add a small, chopped onion to the browned turkey and cook until tender. Add 2 C water, a 28-oz. can of crushed tomatoes, 1 can of great northern beans and 1 T minced garlic. Stir in 3 T chili powder, ½ t paprika, 1 t cayenne pepper, and salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil and simmer for 30 minutes. I served mine with Fritos, and, by the way, the chili is better the next day.
