I found myself without Panko crumbs this week and I needed something to hold my ground chicken patties together.
No problem. I had a whole box of Ritz Crackers ready to get in the ballgame. I also had my Food Saver bags to make the job easy. I put a sleeve of the crackers in the bag and pounded them down to an appropriate consistency, then used them in my chicken mixture. Ritz Crackers add a whole new dimension when used as a filler. They are far more flavorful that plain breadcrumbs.
The neat thing about grinding them in Food Saver bags (which will not puncture) is when you’re finished, you can heat seal the Food Saver Bag and your Ritz crumbles stay fresh and ready to use the next time you need them.
Oh, and here’s another good use for Food Saver bags. I was out of slow cooker liners and wanted to make some beef barbeque out of boneless chuck rib meat. I put them in a large bag, added my sauce, popped them in the slow cooker and the bags did the job. My cooker never even needed wiping down. After 8 hours, it was as clean as when I began. Food Saver Bags – and Ritz Crackers – certainly come in handy.
