I don’t know what a kitchen is like without a tub of bacon grease beside the stove. When I was a boy, it was either lard or bacon grease for almost every meal. When we cooked bacon, we poured off the excess into a pot and seasoned with it. I keep a container of bacon grease even today.
But for Father’s Day, knowing my passion for cooking, my son gave me a tub of rendered bacon grease called Bacon Up. It’s real bacon grease, just tidied up a bit.
Today’s top chefs are discovering that vegetable and olive oils don’t cut it when it comes to bringing out flavor, but bacon grease does, and they are using it more and more in their recipes.
You can fry with it (try it at your next fish fry), bake with it or add it to vegetables and other dishes.
I opened my tub last night and did Liver and Onions and it was as advertised. Delicious.
Most grocery stores carry it. Pick up a tub and it’s ready when you are. Stores well in the pantry, too. You get bacon grease without having to fry the bacon. All the flavor and none of the fuss. A great product.
