I am in love with my Food Saver system. It has literally saved us hundreds of dollars as there is always lots of waste when cooking just for two.
Bacon, for example. We have it maybe once a week. So, I’ll buy a pound of bacon and divide into three or four portions, freezing the extras for later use. And recently, I bought a large package of fresh green beans from Aldi’s. I cooked half, put the other half in a Food Saver bag in the fridge and it was as fresh as ever four days later.
I have also found another great use for Food Saver bags. Recently, I have been pounding cutlets – pork and chicken for example, for quicker cooking and to tenderize the meat.
Cooking instructions call for putting the loins between 2 sheets of waxed paper.
Right. The paper is ripped to shreds after just a few violent strikes.
But!
Put the meat in a Food Saver bag and pound away. The bag stays intact, and the meat gets pulverized. And when you have to crush Ritz Crackers or Graham Crackers for crusts, put them in a Food Saver Bag, take a few whacks and it’s instant crumbs.
It is a game changer. Makes you want to pound everything. I don’t recommend them, though, for tomatoes or cantaloupes.
