I was baking a batch of brownies and set the oven at 315. Fifteen minutes later, there was smoke in the kitchen. The oven had fried the brownies – it was a tray of chocolate charcoal.
The oven, obviously, was on the blink so we called around, looking for someone who could work on and get parts for an older model GE, and had no luck. Finally, we called a company called Mr. Appliance, offering speedy repair on most any appliance. I liked the “speedy” part. Life is not easy without an oven, especially when you like to cook.
They came out right away, then came the bad news. We had what is called a runaway oven. The control panel was shot. Now came the real problem. Our kitchen is over 50 years old, and we had a 22” wall oven to fit the smaller space. Everybody makes a 24” wall oven. But most of the smaller ones have gone the way of dinosaurs.
Mr. Appliance said they could get us one. They gave us a price and said to call them if we wanted to order it. We checked around with all the local companies and no one else could come up with a 22-inch wall oven.
We called Mr. Appliance again and they confirmed they could get a new oven the next day, but we were headed out of town. When we returned, they were out the next morning, installed a beautiful GE 22-inch oven and I cooked a perfect eye of round in it that night.
I found Mr. Appliance to be efficient, pleasant to deal with and most accommodating. They did what they said they would do, and I thought their price – considering that all appliances are now through the roof – to be very fair. Plus, our alternative if we couldn’t find the smaller oven would be to redo the entire kitchen at a cost of at least $30,000. So, we saved a great deal of money.
I give Mr. Appliance 5 stars and suggest you call them when you need speedy, professional service on any of your appliances. Go to charlottesville@mrappliance.com, or call Larry Frantz, owner, at 434-326-1212
