Food Savers: Multiple Uses
I confess. I do not use Food Saver as often as I should. We throw tons of food away and most could be saved with a Vacuum Sealed Food Saver sheet. Meat, veggies, everything.
But I have found even more uses for these heavy-duty plastic sheets.
A few weeks ago, I put a package of chicken directly from the store in the bottom of the fridge, and it leaked. There is nothing much worse than week-old chicken juice and when Nancy found out, she let me have it. So now I try to double bag any chicken packages, but even that can be risky. One tiny hole in a plastic grocery bag is like having no protection at all.
Yesterday, I bought a pack of 10 chicken thighs and this time I reached for a gallon size Food Saver sheet. I put the large package inside, tilted it forward and no leaks, no dripping, it was perfect. The next day, I cooked 5 of the thighs and sealed the rest in the large bag.
Here’s another great use. I have some pint size sheets, almost too small for vacuum sealing, but when I had to pound some chicken breasts for Chicken Parm, I put the breasts in a Food Saver sheet and pounded away. The tough bags remained intact. No punctures. No leaks. They are also good for pounding Corn Flakes as a crust.
Food Savers – a great product with many uses.
