I should shop at Trader Joe’s more often. They have some really interesting items – stuff you won’t find at other stores – like Branzino Sea Bass.
I was at Trader’s last week to stock up on Moon X wines and poked around in the side aisles where I saw a package of frozen Sea Bass, not Chilean Sea Bass but Branzino Sea Bass. I am always looking for a fish to serve and I am leery of tilapia. You never know where it comes from and if it’s shipped from Vietnam or Thailand, those fish farmers don’t always use the most sanitary practices if you know what I mean. Since I don’t eat tilapia, I decided to give the Branzino Sea Bass a try.
Branzino is a mild white fish popular in Italian cuisine. Also called European bass, the fish has been showing up on menus around the country and world as chefs and diners enjoy the sweet, flaky meat.
Branzino is a white ocean fish that thrives in the Mediterranean Sea, though over the years the population has declined due to overfishing. Fisheries across its native region have taken to farm-raising branzino to help fill the demand.
I was very pleased. I fried four filets for Nancy and myself and they were delicious. The package of four was $10.99, money well spent. Try some if you see them. If you like a mild, white fish, you’ll like these Branzino Sea Bass
