During out 4-day mini-vacation in the Gloucester/Deltaville area last week, we decided to explore Gloucester Point on the York River. The York is really the forgotten river – the smaller of the big four, including the Potomac, James, and Rappahannock. But it’s a gorgeous river with good fishing and many attractions. I had only fished the York once and remember hooking up with a red drum that pulled the treble hooks completely off a $15 Yo-Zuri crankbait. It was a powerful fish.
While in Gloucester Point, we stopped by a recommended restaurant called the York River Oyster Company, nicknamed “Y-Rock Bar and Grill” by the locals.
All I can
say is, “Wow!”
The restaurant is tucked away in a yacht haven and if you didn’t have a good
GPS lady, you’d never find it. It sits out over, not beside the water, amid a
fleet of million dollar yachts and offers inside and outside dining. YROC offer
lots of fun drinks and cocktails and a delightful menu of seafood entrees along
with unique sandwiches. Some of the popular dishes include Popular Dishes: Blackened Mahi
Tacos, Fish and Chips, Thai Chili Calamari, Shrimp Tacos, Bang Bang Shrimp,
Blackened Tuna Sandwich, Fried Oysters, Coconut Shrimp and Oysters Rockefeller.
For lunch, I went with a crab cake sandwich loaded with lump crab meat and Nancy had a cup full of Crab Soup packed with chunks of meat. She also ordered their version of Bang Bang Shrimp that was easily better the that served by Bonefish Grill, and I like the shrimp at Bonefish. The Shrimp were fried to perfection and served in a tasty sauce with just the right amount of seasonings. It was simply delicious.
If your travels take you to Gloucester Point, on the lower part of the Middle Peninsula, make it a point to stop by YROC.
