Beth Gladwell, an old friend, visited us for the weekend. Beth and I decided to have a girl’s day and went shopping, visited garden centers and shopping centers and had a great time. Since Jim had fed us an incredibly big and delicious breakfast, it was a while before we were hungry for lunch. We decided on a late lunch at Michie Tavern on Monticello Mountain. They have the best Fried Chicken and Pork Barbecue, and we had not been there in quite a while so off we went.
As usual, it was very crowded, but we found a nice place and then filled our plates. Besides the Fried Chicken and Barbecue, they offered Stewed Tomatoes, Green Beans, Coleslaw, Beets, Black Eyed Peas, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Baked Chicken, Rolls and Cornbread. As usual, it was all good. Noah, our server came around several times offering to get whatever we desired and refilled our metal cups of tea. A manager stopped by to check on us as well. They did not complain about us staying to chat well after our meal was over but not before getting a healthy serving of their Peach Cobbler.
As good as it was, I thought it was a very expensive lunch. I would have expected that price had it been dinner but lunch?? The buffet was $55.90 each. There was an extra charge for tea and dessert. Noah was very attentive, so I gave him a nice tip.
It is a good place to take a friend and especially if they have never been but make sure you have a low balance on your credit cards. We saw a table near us were a family of 6 were dining. In my head I was figuring how much their meal was going to be and was glad it was just two of us.
