I had heard really good things about Jack’s Shop Kitchen, a counter-serve eatery in an antique store in Ruckersville. Everyone raved about the food, and last Friday afternoon, Nancy and I stopped by for Brunch (lunch), and to see for ourselves.
It’s an open floor plan. You order at the counter and then they bring your meals to your table. They didn’t offer an extensive menu, but it was plain to see this was not cookie-cutter food. Everything seemed upscale. Both Nancy and I ordered the Chicken Salad Croissants with a Fresh Fruit Dressing. The buttery Croissants were like fresh from the oven and the fruit blend went perfectly with the chunky white meat chicken salad. As a side, I went for a Tomato/Cucumber salad, expecting a few cherry tomatoes and a couple slices of cucumbers. I got the tomatoes and cukes, alright, but the dressing – a Vinaigrette, Olive Oil and Sun-dried Tomato combination – was a killer. I ate every bite.
The menu, as I said, is anything but ordinary with offerings like Bacon, Lettuce and Fried Green Tomato sandwiches or Goat Cheese Fritters for brunch/lunch and Shrimp, Chorizo & Grits or Lamb Meatballs for dinner. Some of the other brunch specialties include Truffle Benedict and Stuffed French Toast.
Jack’s Shop also has special occasions – like a Prime Rib Night and Fish Fry Nights. Check the menu and schedules at jacksshopkitchen.com

A great place to eat. Give them a try.
