Nancy and I were married on March 3. There are 2 problems with that date. First, when you go on anniversary trips anywhere near Virginia (including the SC and NC beaches) it is cold and most everything is shut down. Second, if you go on a cruise or to the tropics, you are joined by legions of college kids on spring break. So, never get married on March 3.
But we did and found ourselves in Deltaville on an anniversary getaway with all the restaurants closed except for one – the Deltaville Tap and Raw Bar. With no other choices, we found a small table at the waterfront restaurant and enjoyed, not one, but two great meals on successive nights. We had fresh flounder, oysters, crab cakes and shrimp with great sides (like collard greens.)
There service was very good and the prices reasonable.
Deltaville is like a bedroom community for Richmonders. Many have cottages and second homes in that region. We like to go there because it is close, there lots of sights to see and the fishing (except on March 3) is very good.
If you are in Deltaville this summer or fall, don’t miss the opportunity to dine at Deltaville Tap and Raw Bar, located at a marina, with great water views. The address is 274 Buck View Lane, Deltaville, VA 23043. Contact them at info@dvlrawbar.com or 804-776-1039.
