It looks like we have a resident raccoon. Well, maybe not a resident, but a frequent visitor. A few weeks ago, Nancy noticed a flattened place in one of her garden beds. The deer are fenced out, so they weren’t the culprits. Maybe a big cat?
Then, one day as I was typing in the living room, I saw a raccoon walk right up on the front porch – in the middle of the day. Nancy found another flattened place in her garden and then saw the real thing. Again, in the middle of the day, Mr. Ricky Raccoon comes sashaying across the back patio, headed for the bed, but eased out of sight when he saw us.
Coons are generally nocturnal creatures, but Ricky enjoys the daylight hours. Raccoons have quickly adapted to the presence of humans and enjoy their feasts from garbage cans, pet food bowls and bird seed if they can reach it. It’s possible that Ricky Raccoon is Rickette Raccoon and may be having or has had little ones. We don’t know. If he/she would just stay out of the flower beds, we’d be much obliged.
