We spent 4 glorious days on the Eastern Shore last weekend. The weather was perfect, the fishing was good and we were thoroughly entertained by Itsy Bitsy Spider. Actually, our Arachnid friend was not so itsy bitsy. He (or she) was the size of a fat marble.
Every evening, Itsy would lower himself by a single strand of web down the front of one of our windows and create his web. It took him several hours to assemble, but in no time, gnats and small insects found themselves trapped. On the last night, Itsy hit the jackpot as a large bee flew in and got himself “webbed”.
Itsy was on his victim in a flash, administering numbing stings which paralyzed the bee. Next Itsy, engulfed the bee in a cocoon and later dined in style.
It doesn’t take much to entertain my family and the Itsy Bitsy Spider easily filled that role.
