Nancy and I don’t often go to movies. That’s because they don’t make movies I would like to see. One movie, however, came out last week that I wanted to see. Reagan – basically, a biography of Ronald Reagan, our 40th president. The liberal Hollywood critics panned the movie. They vigorously oppose any film with a hint of religion or patriotism, but the movie they despised grossed $10 million for the first weekend, placing third among all films. Our audience loved it and erupted in applause when the film ended.
It is the story about a man with a great sense of humor and even a greater determination to defeat Communism. As an actor, Reagan saw the destructive nature of the Communist Party and vowed not to let it ruin the country he loved.
The movie stars Dennis Quaid in the best role I have ever seen him play. It was narrated by Jon Voight, who played the part of a Russian agent who saw Reagan’s star rising and warned his party that the “Crusader” was a real threat to socialism.
It is also a love story about Ronnie Reagan and the love of his life – Nancy Davis.
The movie will make you laugh, it will make you cry, and it will make you proud to be an American. If you see one movie this year, see this one.
