This spring, Nancy and I drove to Burnside Farms in Nokesville for their Tulip Festival. The flowers were beautiful, the food delicious and it was a wonderful experience. Burnside Farms plants millions of tulips in dazzling colors and the lovely flowers are in display for just a couple weeks. After the tulips bloom, Burnside turns their attention to sunflowers and that season is now underway.
The Summer of Sunflowers & Sunflower Sunsets runs from July 11th through mid-August with 70 acres of sunflowers in bloom. Special Sunflower Sunsets run from 4 pm until dusk, weather permitting. Morning visits are also available, but the farm is closed from noon until 4 because of summer heat.
Guests can enjoy special music and entertainment and can also pick from over 30 varieties of sunflowers. Extra flowers are $1.50 per stem and a special bed of cosmos and zinnias are also available along with a garden of gladiolus and liatris.
Tickets are required and are available at ticketing@burnsidefarms.com. The Nokesville Farm is located at 11008 Kettle Run in Nokesville, about an hour’s drive from Charlottesville. Arrive any time after 4:00 pm on concert nights to enjoy the flower fields, food, drink, roaming performers, and other activities. Concerts are scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm.
