We have a female coffee maker. I knew they made coffee makers to handle both Keurig and regular drip blends. I also know they make fancy coffee makers for Espresso and other exotic barista creations, and I am aware of digital and programmable coffee pots. What I didn’t know was that coffee makers came in sexes. Ours is clearly a female. It has mostly good days, and then again, some not-so-good days.
On most mornings I’ll wobble into the kitchen, pick up a cup – I like Styrofoam cups – and pour myself a little Joe. And on most mornings, the coffee pot behaves normally, allowing a hot stream of coffee into my cup. But then, the next day, and for no particular reason, I’ll tilt the pot forward and it’s like all the coffee in the entire pot wants to come out at the same time. Hot coffee splashes everywhere. I pour it the same way every time, but on some days – just like a woman – the coffee pot is upset about something and does not behave in a normal fashion.
I have learned, however, not to reprimand the pot for spilling coffee on the counter, but to simply ignore it and accept the fact that it simply has its good days and it has its bad days.
It is clearly a female coffee pot.
