Actually, it’s not a short list, but something close to short. I find it harder and harder to shop at Kroger’s, even though it’s right across the highway.
I made a quick run there yesterday and saw a counter piled high with Reynold’s aluminum foil. It said, “Buy 5 and get 1 Free.”
Why would anyone want 6 boxes of aluminum foil – unless maybe they had a warehouse for storage? We have a hard enough time putting 2 boxes in our drawers. I wonder if anybody ever takes them up on that deal.
Frequently, they’ll have a similar offers on six-packs of ginger ales and sodas. Buy 6 and get one free, or something like that. Maybe two 6-packs, but 5 or 6? At Food lion, if it’s 2-for-something, they’ll sell you one at half price. But not Kroger’s.
Another grumble. They have one guy there with pink hair that cards me when I buy wine. Really, he cards me, and I saw Eisenhower’s Inauguration. He says it’s the law, but he apparently is the only grocery clerk in Charlottesville who follows the law. Others use common sense.
And the check-out counters where you put your scanned groceries are super sensitive. If you use your own bag and it wobbles, the weight sensitive counters think you’re trying to sneak something past them and the “Help is on the Way” sign pops up, which slows the process immensely.
Finally, this doesn’t make me mad, but it also doesn’t make sense. They put a Security Guard out in entranceway where the carts are. I understand that shoplifting is a huge problem, but I assure you that 100% of all the theft comes from inside the store, not where they keep the carts. Why not have the guards patrolling the aisles? That would be a deterrent, but what do I know?
Oh well, there’s always Aldi’s.
