Once upon a time, there was a guy named Jim who decided one day to put magic seeds in a Jiffy Pot and start his own squash and cucumbers. The magic seeds just sat there for about a week and moped. But then one day, they peeked out of the soil in the pots, decided that they should sprout and sprout they did… and sprout, and sprout and sprout some more.
With a few days they were six inches tall and about as big around as a toothpick. At that rate, by the time the garden had warmed enough to transplant the sprouts, they would be four feet tall, but still only as wide as a toothpick. Plants like that tend not to do well in the wild.
So, Jim began to transplant into larger and larger pots hoping the sprouts would settle down and grow a little wider, not taller.
It finally happened that way when Jim ordered some plastic pots that were exactly like the ones you see at nurseries. The black pots were 5 ½ inches tall, 4-inches wide and gave the sprouts room to spread their little roots and put on some weight.
Jim bought 50 of the magic pots, which is probably two life-times-worth, but his fat, little sprouts are loving life.
What’s that?
“Fee-fi-foe-fum?”
Damn it’s the Frost Giant. Back to square one.
