I am chomping at the bit to get in my garden and stick something in the ground. Seeing that first little green shoot erupting from the earth is one of the most amazing sights of all.
In preparation for the big day – which is I hope comes this week when the ground dries a bit – I have purchased a pack of Frosty Peas. Not Frosty the Snowman’s peas, but a variety called Early Frosty Peas. They say it’s oneof the best for early spring planting. The peas are hearty and excellent for locations with chilly spring weather and short seasons. Vines grow pretty tall, to 30-inches, so they’ll need a trellis or some support. The peas yield 3 1/2” pods filled with 6-7 medium sized peas. They say they are great for fresh-off-the vine eating and for freezing – plus they hold up well after harvest.
The plants germinate in as little as a week, even when the soil is in the low 50-s. Frosty Peas. It sounds like a plan!
