It’s a good time to be at Virginia Beach. It may not be warm enough to lie in the sun on a beach blanket, but the fishing is red hot. Trout, drum, and rockfish are hitting in the surf and from the piers. Trout and drum are also active in the Hampton Roads area as well as in Northern Neck waters. Rockfish are keeping anglers busy in the Rappahannock, especially at night. When boats can get out, there have been tremendous catches of flounder and sea bass on the ocean wrecks.
The Gulf Stream boats have not sailed.
OBX
At Nags Head, the wind has thrown a monkey wrench into nearshore and offshore action and has made things difficult even for surf fishermen. The piers were productive though, with good catches of sea mullet, puppy drum and black drum. Sound fishermen scored with stripers, pups and specks and the Little Bridge to Manteo continues to yield good catches specks and puppies.
At Hatteras Harbor, some nice drum were reported on Wednesday. The blue water boats up and down the OBX have been confined to quarters due to high winds and rough seas.
