From yellowfins to blues, lots of colorful fish are being brought in at Oregon Inlet. The catch has been hot for yellowfin tuna on offshore charters. Boats have also been landing Mahi-Mahi, big eye tuna, wahoo, and blue marlin.
Nearshore and Inshore charters have been catching drum, cobia, big bluefish, and speckled trout.
Virginia Saltwater
Large bluefish have shown up just about everywhere, and Spanish mackerel are being caught by boats trolling spoons or casting to schools near inlets, along tide lines and over coastal wrecks. Anglers on the Virginia Beach and Buckroe piers caught both Spanish and Blues this week. So far, the Spanish are averaging between 1 and 2 pounds. A much larger class is on the way.
Cobia have started entering the bay. Pier anglers at Va. Beach, and in the lower bay landed a few keeper sized fish. Pier anglers have also reported Red Drum, but most of the catches have been coming from boats.
Catches of sheepshead are reported around and below the bridge tunnel. The lower bay has been giving up puppy drum, Speckled trout, and flounder. Flounder are being caught in better numbers on the seaside of the Eastern Shore. The offshore boats are having a great week so far, with numerous catches of blue marlin. They are also having good luck with Mahi, blackfin tuna, and a few Wahoo.
