Each fall, our house in Charlottesville becomes something of a Bed & Breakfast for the ladies in my family as they come from as far away as Houston to attend Martha’s Market. Marsha, my sister in law, comes from Myrtle Beach, my other sister in law, Laura, drives in from Charleston, WV and my younger sister, Jo, is the visiting Texan. It’s an event they don’t want to miss.
Martha’s Market is a truly unique event organized by The Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation and was formed in 2002 to organize and lead Martha Jefferson Hospitals’ philanthropic relationship with the communities. Since its founding, over $70 million has been raised in support of programs, services, staff, facilities and equipment for Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital.
Martha’s Market is a gathering of some of the top craft and boutique dealers on the East Coast at the prestigious John Paul Jones Arena here in Charlottesville. Guests pay $10 each for the privilege of attending the show and they spend money profusely. The vendors, by the way, are invited to come. It is an honor to be asked. They don’t simply buy the right to a booth. Many have been coming since its inception. No local vendors are allowed. The clothing, gifts, art and trinkets on hand are exceptional.
Martha’s Market 2015 began this Thursday with a preview party but it runs through Sunday, so even if you missed Thursday and Friday, there is still time. The Market hours are Friday 9:30 am – 7:00 pm, Saturday 10:00 am – 6:00 pm and Sunday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
There is plenty of parking at JPJ and it’s free. Any questions, call the Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation Office at (434) 654-8258.
This is a road trip that’s fun and gives back to the community. Come see what it’s all about.
