Boy, this would be a good weekend to get out, take a little road trip and see the beautiful colors of the changing autumn leaves. It would also be a good time to visit a Virginia vineyard and maybe hear some great music while savoring a bottle of crisp, white wine. What if you could do all this and enjoy some delicious food in a beautiful Shenandoah Valley setting? You can, at CrossKeys Vineyards where Jimmy O will be strumming his guitar and belting out some of the great the songs of our salad days. It all happens this Sunday at CrossKeys Vineyard from 2 to 5 PM.
CrossKeys is a beautiful 125-acre estate situated in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, producing a wide array of award winning, estate grown, produced, and bottled wines. My favorite is their Joy White, a refreshing wine, not overly sweet, and with a hint of peaches and pears. Delightful! The food, also, is very good. Executive Chef Dexter offers an impressive tapas selection including tempting dishes such as Duck Nachos, Brie Fondue, the famous CrossKeys Sampler and others. There are also garden fresh salads, burgers and other sandwiches on the menu.
Cross Keys offers a special program with discounts on wine purchases and private tastings. We signed up and have enjoyed their wines and the extra savings, and it’s always a treat to hear Jimmy O, one of Virginia’s finest entertainers. We’ve known Jimmy and his lovely wife, Sue, for many years, and hearing his great music never gets old.
CrossKeys Vineyards is conveniently located in Mt. Crawford, roughly between Massanutten Resort and Harrisonburg, and easily accessible by Interstate 81. Go to www.crosskeysvineyards.com for directions and more information. To follow Jimmy O, go to www.jimmyovirginia.com.
We’ll be heading for the Shenandoah Valley this Sunday and a fall road trip. Maybe we’ll see you there.
