I wrote recently about Spencer Sausage which I find on the Outer Banks and in Eastern North Carolina. It is good stuff. But there is another excellent sausage from down that way. When we were in Nags Head, I went to Food Lion and they no longer carried Spencer Sausage, but they had a brand called Bass Farm Sausage. It looked good and I bought a package of 8 link sausages. Later, though, I found some Spencer Sausage, so I froze the pack of Bass Sausage I had bought and brought it home. This week, I remembered I had it, thawed it, and cooked it for breakfast. It was yummy. I still prefer Spencer, but Bass Farm is certainly worth trying.
Again, you can only find in in Eastern NC.
Bass Farm Sausage is made Spring Hope, NC, the self-described birthplace of the best sausage in the world. Spring Hope is in Nash County near Rocky Mount – Andy Griffith territory.
Like Spencer Sausage, Bass is whole-hog sausage, made from a family recipe for over 60 years. If you go to Nags Head or the Outer Banks this summer and see Bass Farm Sausage, buy it – if you can’t find Spencer Sausage.
