We are loving our goldfish pond. Every afternoon that it’s decent outside, we go out to the pond, have a cocktail and watch the fish do laps. I’ve been trying to teach them to do tricks, like they do with dolphins, but so far I can’t get them to jump through any hoops. They just do laps around the pond and beg for food.
One initial concern we had right after we installed the pond was water clarity. It seemed a tad murky. Nancy went out and bought a half dozen plants and that pretty much did the job. You can buy water plants locally at Snow’s and The Garden Spot on Hydraulic Road. Springdale Gardens in Greenville also has a huge selection.
Water plants act as filters as do tadpoles, and we bought a dozen of them. If they all turn into bullfrogs this summer, no one in the neighborhood will be able to sleep.
Harrr-rummpph! Harrr-rummpph!
We also dropped a few snails in the water to help keep things clear and tidy.
The water now is very clear. But I still can’t get the fish to do any tricks.
