Nancy said she wanted to go out to eat at “The Loud Place”. She calls it The Loud Place because it’s pretty darned loud inside, especially if someone has a birthday and the entire staff gets to hooting and hollering. So, The Loud Place it was. And it was loud, Texas Roadhouse, that is. If you want ambience and a nice quiet dinner, Texas Roadhouse is not your kind of place. But if you want pretty good food at a modest price, it is indeed the place to be.
I thought about ordering their Rib Eye and Shrimp Combo. I’ve had that before and it was excellent. Then I noticed the Fried Catfish. Fried Catfish – cooked just right – are hard to beat. I crossed my fingers and hoped they would be good. That were out of sight – fried to perfection and served crispy and piping hot. Texas Roadhouse knows how to cook catfish.
They have a Three-Catfish Combo and Four-Catfish platter. Three is plenty. They are large portions served with one of the best tossed salads in town and a side of crispy French Fries. The catfish are U.S. Farm Raised, not imports and come with a delicious Creole Mustard Sauce. They were also very reasonable – I think $11.95. Nancy ordered Grilled Chicken, which was good but nothing special. Our server, by the way, was excellent.
Another thing I like about Texas Roadhouse is the value of their mixed drinks and wines. I ordered a Double Makers Mark and it was $9.95. Many restaurants charge more than that for a weak, single portion. You can also “Texas Size” your wine – really a double portion for around $8, and all their entrees and sides are reasonably priced.
If you go and want beef, don’t order the Prime Rib, order their Rib Eye Steaks, and if you really like Fried Catfish, reserve a table right now for the Texas Roadhouse.
