I had an extra pack of hot dogs in the fridge, and we had just had hot dogs on the grill. I didn’t want to press my luck and try to sneak them in the menu again so soon (even though I could eat hot dogs three times a week).
So, what do you do with extra hot dogs? Beans and franks, maybe? Not the most appealing entrée for sure. I decided to experiment. I made Pizza Dogs and they were good.
Here’s how.
I had some extra 6-inch tortillas and I decided to put them to good use.
I put the hot dog in the microwave for about 60 seconds. I wanted to make sure they got done during the experiment and they did. I spread about a tablespoon of pasta sauce on the tortilla, then cut 2 slices of pepperoni in small pieces and sprinkled them on the tortilla. I also spread a couple tablespoons of grated mozzarella cheese on the tortilla. I put a single dog in the middle of the concoction, wrapped the tortilla tightly, secured it with a toothpick and baked the pizza dogs for 15 minutes in a 350 oven. They were yummy.
The only problem was that the tortillas fell apart. Next time I’ll use two toothpicks and put the folded side on the bottom. Even so, it was a bit like eating a regular hot dog on a bun and it was quite tasty.
