Drat.
The local farm where I have been buying cage-free eggs is and has not been not delivering. That’s because the chickens are molting and apparently their hens cannot lay eggs and molt at the same time. So we were completely out of fresh eggs.
I don’t mind regular eggs, except they are not as firm and flavorful as local eggs. The cage-free part is irrelevant. I just like the cage-free eggs for freshness.
But last week, I was in Sam’s Club and saw a two-dozen pack of brown, cage-free eggs and they were just $3.99. I picked up a carton of The Member’s. Mark product and they were excellent. The yolks were firm and a bold yellow and the whites were also firm and did not run all over the frying pan. For the record, the hens are only fed pure vegetable diets if that makes any difference and I thought they were as good as the farm eggs we have been buying.
A suppose Costco sells a similar thing, but Sam’s Club has always been a good source for eggs. Great prices and great eggs. Try some. There are two dozen to a carton, they are large and brown. And good.
