If you can’t go to the Outer Banks, bring the Outer Banks to you. That’s what we did a year ago. After a great four-day getaway, we stopped by Outer Banks Driftwood in Kill Devil Hills on our way back home and bought three pieces of beautiful driftwood. One is now overlooking our goldfish pond. It’s a classic cypress stump that washed up on shores of the Outer Banks, no telling how many years ago. I turned another piece into a light fixture and the third will make a nice driftwood canvas for a painting – maybe some oysters or a trout or seashells. I’m still thinking about it.
My old friend Capt. Reese Stecher owns and operates Outer Banks Driftwood.
Reese fishes back in the creeks and sounds near Nags Head and often runs up on nice pieces of driftwood. He began bringing them in, found a hungry market and now has one of the largest online high-end sights for driftwood on the East Coast.
He has a huge inventory ranging from small pieces to large beams – and everything in between. He has planter pieces and mantel pieces, most anything and any size you’d want.
Go to outerbanksdriftwood.com and browse his sight.
I know I enjoy my cypress piece each time we sit by the pond, and each time I think of the Outer Banks and can’t wait to make another trip.
