I have always been a little leery of Omaha Steaks. If you get on their mailing list, they will pester you to death to buy their products. Sure, their steaks are good, but it always seemed like a bait-and-switch deal, buy a few steaks and they toss in all the cheap stuff.
Well, I changed my mind. What I thought was the “cheap stuff” turned out to be the best of all.
For Fathers Day, my son Jimmie sent a box from Omaha Steaks, a thoughtful gift packed in dry ice – and I love their Styrofoam coolers. When family comes and needs to take something home, those coolers come in handy.
I glanced at the box and I had received a Bone-In Rib-Eye steak, plus 4 tenderloin burgers, 4 twice baked potatoes, four Kielbasa sausages, some pork chops and apple tarts. Just as I suspected, one steak and lots of other stuff.
Soon after, I needed a starch for a meal, and took out two of the potatoes. They were dynamite. We had company over one night and needed a desert, so I prepared the apple tarts with some vanilla ice cream – delicious. Next we polished off the tenderloin burgers, which were probably the best things in the assortment. It was like eating a filet mignon hamburger – the best burgers I’ve ever had, I believe. The pork chops were delicious and then I tried the kielbasa. It was packed full of lean meat, not like the kielbasa you buy at the store. It was fabulous. The last thing we had from the assortment, believe it or not, was the single steak, It was big enough for two and very tasty, of course, but with the steak came a small shaker of steak rub – a really, really good rub. We still have it and I now sprinkle it on each steak I grill.
Yes, I have changed my mind about Omaha Steaks. Everything they put in their boxes is exceptionally good. What a great gift idea.
