I had forgotten how good a Honey Baked Ham can taste, but my sister-in-law, Laura Patterson, brought one to a family reunion and it was – as always – incredible. Honey Baked opened their first retail store in Detroit in 1957. The initial owner, HarryHoenselaar, actually patented the spiral-slicing process which is still prevalent. The Honey Baked Ham Company, LLC has since grown to over 200 company owned retail stores and 200 franchise locations across the United States, as well as an ecommerce business. We had a genuine Honey Baked Ham deli and shop in C’ville in Rio Hills Shopping Center just a few years back, but then Honey Baked Ham started selling to Wal-Mart and that was the end of our locally owned store.
The flavor of these hams is like no other. The company is very selective about which hams they use and their curing process is truly unique. The depth and dimension of this flavor is like nothing else on the market – as they say, the ideal balance of savory and sweet. Each ham is smoked for up to 24 hours with a special blend of hardwood chips. The result is that every rich and flavorful bite, and every slice, is fall-apart-in-your-mouth perfect. The sweet, crunchy glaze is icing on the cake.
If you don’t have a Honey Baked Ham outlet near you, you can now order them on-line. All I know is that there is nothing better than a Honey Baked Ham sandwich, with fresh bread, mayo, mustard and a couple slices of fresh, home grown tomatoes.
Yumm! Makes me hungry just to think about it.
