Since you really have to pack light when you go on a cruise, I decided the last time we went to Hawaii, I would take only one pair of shoes – something casual, but decent looking and something I could also use for golf. I went to Stein Mart (RIP) and saw a pair of blue mesh shoes, made by Skechers. Since I am rarely in the casual shoe market, I had never heard of Skechers shoes, but I bought them and they were terrific. I enjoyed wearing them so much that I played golf in them all last year – they were comfortable, didn’t slip and I didn’t have to worry about re-tying my golf shoes every 30 minutes.
Skechers was founded in 1992 in California by Robert Greenberg who was looking for an entry into the casual footwear market. The shoes are unbelievably comfortable and are now the third largest casual footwear brand in the United States – so they are doing something right.
On a recent trip to Sam’s, I saw a big stack of Skechers boxes and they were on sale. I eagerly bought another pair. I don’t know if all Sam’s Club stores have them, or just Charlottesville, but they carry several styles in the $30 range – about half price.
If you need a really nice pair of casual shoes for this spring, hurry down to Sam’s and get a pair or two of Skechers – and if you get a chance, go to Hawaii as well.
