Government – or gov-mint as Ronald Reagan used to pronounce it – does one thing really well. Blow things up. We have a spectacular military. Ask bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. As for the rest of the stuff – not so much. The Post Office – a government sponsored monopoly that can’t make money – comes to mind.
Most anything the Gov’mint runs is inefficient. Like Covid vaccine scheduling, Obama Care enrollments and the state-run ABC stores.
I had some errands to run and shopping to do at Kroger’s and while I was in Rio Hills, I thought I’d stop by the liquor store. It was 11:45 AM and they were closed.
Hmmm!
Does anyone with a pea for a brain think that if the ABC stores were privately owned, they’d be closed at a time when many shoppers are out and about? Hardly. But the state decided to restrict hours at the ABC stores because of – tada– Covid.
The facts are that alcohol consumption is up at ABC stores because: (1) People are staying at home more and not going out to drink at restaurants and bars and: (2) people are drinking more because of this Chinese crap.
But the hours are restricted at the only place you can buy hard liquor?
What this means is that the same number of people will be forced to go to the liquor store in a restricted amount of time. That increases the density of shoppers, and just exactly how does that help the Covid problem?
It doesn’t. It only increases the risks of Covid and adds somewhat to the bottom line for the ABC stores.
To quote President Reagan: Gov’mint is not the solution, it’s the problem.
