When my good friend, Ron Martin, was alive, if we needed to replace an appliance we’d call him and say, “Ron, our dishwasher just died. When can you get us another one?”
Odds are, it was the next day. His technicians delivered the new one, took the old one away and left a bill on our kitchen counter. We trusted Ron’s expertise and opinion so much that we often left it up to him to pick the appliance, not the color, mind you. That is always a wife’s decision, but he knew the size we needed and the quality we insisted on.
Ron passed away several years ago and Ron Martin Appliance no longer is in operation, but we recently found ourselves needing appliances. All of them, it seemed. Everything was going to pot. Wall oven, cook top, fridge, dishwasher, range hood – everything. We tried our hand at shopping at the big box stores, but the clerks there knew as much about appliances as I did, which is not a lot. They would order one for you if you gave them the model number and assuming you knew all the specs and sizes, but I wanted someone to help me pick the right products.
Ultimately, I called Doug Golder with Doug’s Maytag Home Appliance Center. Doug came out personally, measured everything and helped track down a hard to find wall oven to fit our space. With a 50-plus year old home, that was not easy. He advised us on options, and helped us get exactly what we wanted and needed. He also gave us a package price that actually exceeded the big box discounts. We were super satisfied.
Doug started off with a basic repair operation back in 1991, then recognized the need for a full sales and service operation in Scottsville and joined the Maytag Team in 1996. Doug’s Maytag, however, carries a full range of appliances to include Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid, and Amana.
I begged Doug to come to Charlottesville and set up a satellite store, but he insisted that by owning his own building in Scottsville, and operating there, he is able to keep his overhead down and compete with the big boys.
It is certainly reassuring to know that now when we need an appliance or advice, we have a new friend in Doug Golder at Doug’s Maytag Home Appliance Center. The store is located at 695 Valley Street in Scottsville. If you need personal assistance with appliances, give him a call at 434-296-6952 or 434-286-6952.
