Craig’s List was an amazing innovation. Buyers could list their products – for free – and be exposed to tens of thousands of potential buyers. The service started in San Francisco back in 1995 and spread like wildfire. It changed the used car industry and practically put the Want Ads in newspapers into mothballs.
But now, crooks and scam artists are doing the same to Craig’s List. They have taken away what credibility there once was.
I have personally run into a half dozen crooks while checking out deals or listing products. Once, I listed a crystal chandelier and some guy in Florida promised to pay me more than I was asking, said he was having his secretary send a check, and he did, but I tossed it in the trash. I think they were trying to set people up for a blackmail somehow or overpay with bogus funds and ask for a refund.
Then, I saw a small motor home that looked too good to be true, and it was. The husband, of course, had died and the widow was too heart broken to use the motor home, so if you sent her money, COD, she’d have a trucking company deliver the camper – satisfaction guaranteed. About half of the camper/RVs listed on Craig’s List now look like shady deals.
These people are thieves, crooks and bottom dwellers. They have practically ruined what was once a great service.
Craig’s List? Be careful.
